Abstract
The analysis of the rather small, but diverse collection of works on the history of children's readingin Croatia, in order to answer the questions "what", "where", "when", "why" and "how" children were reading in the late 18th century until the end of the 19th century the tendencies (the dominant non-individual features) of children's reading that have developed under the influence of various external (church, society, family), and congenital factors (age and gender) were studied and examined. The work is focused specifically on the interpretation of the two of then-dominant, but today almost abandoned forms of children's reading, namely, children's reading of books for adults and children reading to adults.
