Abstract
The main goal of this thesis is to shed light on the value of compassion to individuals and to the entire human society. In order to accomplish said goal, there are several of the most important authors discussed, whose work involves compassion as the basic or very important component. Apart from the theoretical background given by philosophy, there are several educational aspects of compassion which are also valuable to this topic, and they are to be revealed by putting compassion into comparison with similar terms of altruism and empathy. Compassion also plays a role in achieving prosocial behavior. Having that in mind, compassion can be educated, but also turn to a state called compassion fatigue − a common occurrence when it comes to professions which include helping and caring for others.
