Abstract
Data migration is a data preservation strategy. Other than migration, there are other data preservation strategies like emulation and encapsulation. To better understand the concept of migration, information about reasons, risks and methods for migration are provided. Data migration can also be considered from the project management perspective. For migration to be successful, certain steps must be taken, such as identifying the records for migration, where to migrate them, in which format, what is the right strategy to choose from and how to ensure quality and safety of records.
