Abstract
Library employees and users daily encounter vast variety of threats to library materials. Main factors of deterioration of library materials are of physical, chemical and biological nature. Physical factors of deterioration are light, heath, humidity and moisture, all of which do not change significantly over time. Chemical factors of deterioration imply atmospheric and solid deteriorative damage. To preserve materials from those factors, it is necessary to use suitable filters that will prevent pollutions influence the materials. Biological factors pertain mostly to those of floral and animal kind that can be found in libraries and present a threat to library materials. Those include different kinds of bacteria, fungus, insects and rodents. It is of crucial importance to take preventive measures in order to keep pests, and other types of damages, from occurring. Considering that is hard to achieve in many cases, and that library materials often get infected, it is important to clean it in correct way, and store it properly to keep it from new infections and damages as long as possible.
