Abstract
This text outlines possible methodical approaches to the novel “Konjanik”. After the introductory proposals for motivation and localization, multiple possible interpretations for the novel are suggested.
“Konjanik” can be interpreted in the frame of correlation-integration methodical system and in the frame of its subtype - intersubject correlation. Croatian language and literature are tied to History and Religious Education and, meanwhile, historical and political circumstances of the novel are thematised together with the relationship of Christianity and Islam. Interpretation can be done as well by focusing on the main characters of the novel, Petar and Lejla, and making the psychological, sociological and ethical characterization of those two characters which brings us to the conclusion of how they change and what motivates them. The confrontations are suggested as a separate type of interpretation because they are represented from the beginning to the end of the novel and influence it greatly. That mostly refers to the conflicts between Petar and Lejla and their environment, and the conflict between the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire.
Two suggestions are given for the approach to the novel - as a as a complete suggested school reading or an excerpt that the interpretation is based upon.
