Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare children's social behavior, parenting values and early child care teacher's socialization goals in Agazzi and humanistic kindergartens. The study included 106 parents and 18 teachers. PROS/AG scale was used to assess the behavior of 106 children, aged 3 to 7. Parenting Values Scale (PVS) and Professional socialization goals, preferred teaching and motivation methods questionnaire were also used. Parents assessed older children as more prosocial than younger children, but no differences were found regarding children's gender and kindergarten they attended. Teachers also assessed older children as more prosocial as well as the children from Agazzi kindergarten, but there were no differences regarding children's gender. Parents assess boys as more agressive than girls, as well as younger children, but there were no differences regarding kindergarten. Teachers see younger children as more agressive as well as children from humanistic kindergarten, but no differences regarding the children's age were found. Parents from both kindergartens value traditional values and conformism the most, then education, independence and happiness, and at least success and prestige. Agazzi teachers focus on relational union and norms and values more than humanistic teachers, which in turn focus on preparation for formal education and the development of motor and sensory skills more.
