Abstract

Position of ethics in Heidegger's philosophy is the theme of this dissertation. Is it possible to read ethical thought from Heidegger's philosophy and if so, what is its place in the context of ethical issues, primarily in regard to Aristotle and Kant, we will try to elucidate. We will also look upon the further consequences of Heidegger’s thought, first of all in deconstruction. Initial thought of this dissertation is that ethics cannot be a system of guidelines and rules for behavior. Ethics is always in becoming and contingency, in other words, it depends on the concrete situations. The attempt was to find the place beyond normative and descriptive, deontological and utilitarian, which are dominant preoccupations in ethics. Heidegger’s thought in its complexity includes an ethical moment which is different from these dominant distinctions. The main thesis of this dissertation is that ethics is conceived as being-at the nearness of Being, as the development of relations to oneself, others and the world, as finding the position in concrete situation and, finally, as the ethical concept of concern. Methodology we have followed is hermeneutics. But, interpretation as a method is not merely a method. It is a way of the relation towards the text and in this dissertation that way is hermeneutical. Hermeneutics as the approach to the text includes finding the relations between different philosophical expressions and their connection to the meaningful complex. That kind of relation we had found between Aristotle and Heidegger so we could have show that the oblivion of being is also oblivion of ethics. The return to Aristotle’s ethical thought is fruitful for current ethical discussions. The connection of ethics and ontology is, in the end, the connection of ethics and hermeneutics. That’s why we shall discuss about hermeneutical ethics and ethical hermeneutics so that is clear that their relation is imminent and substantial.
