Abstract
The thesis is researching the development of the modes of working and ways museums and cultural institutions are presenting themselves in the 21st century in the virtual domain, and how it has affected museum theory. Considering the amount of sociological, economic and political changes that happened in the past 20 years as part of the development of internet and ways of communicating in the online world, accordingly a rapid amount of changes also came that influenced the way museums present themselves to the public, but also how they let the public take part in their development. As part of all this, the newly founded NGO from Zagreb – Živi Atelje Dajht Kralj, which deals with the preservation, protection and promotion of the works of Jewish sculptor Vera Dajht Kralj who worked in Zagreb and Croatia from the 1950’s – 1990’s was taken as an example. The master’s thesis deals with the workings of a small culture NGO, the benefits and challenges of virtual presence of cultural institutions and museums, and the modes of achieving a bigger presence in the public life and interest of the public in a virtual surrounding, as well as the means of achieving that.
