Abstract
A poster is a media intended for mass transfer of information with certain elements such as material, format, picture / photo, text, colour etc. The heritage institutions have valued and preserved a poster as an important material of cultural significance. It is used as a visual presentation on exhibitions and it is a medium of communication with users as well as a media for the promotion of exhibitions and events held in an institution. A poster is a unique and interesting medium due to its ability to convey a message with the minimal use of text, which is comprehensible to a wider population. Each of the heritage institutions treat and use posters in a unique way. In particular, the paper describes characteristics and features of posters. Moreover, there are given examples from the practice of Croatian museums, libraries and archives. The idea of the "Peace Poster Gallery" project has also been described, with the aim of gathering and digitizing peace posters with positive symbols owned by the International Network of Museums for Peace (Den Haag, Netherlands). This would create a common database and a network that would be used by all INMP members and users around the world for education purposes. Scientific disciplines of the AKM community should play an important role in such and similar projects where their suggestions and interventions can contribute to better presentation of content for users, as well as protection, digitization and processing of the material itself. There are given some suggestions for AKM community in Croatia to put an emphasis on posters and their cultural importance for the community in order to facilitate cooperation between institutions and to educate users through the web. A poster is a reflection of the time and the society in which it has emerged and as such it is the medium of great importance for present and future generations.
