Abstract
This paper analyzes the advantages of institutionalization of social media, which is generally falling behind in Croatia opposed to the western countries, in the area of activities connected to Croatian diaspora. The multimedia approach of social media enables communication of better quality for users in purposes of informing, promotion of projects, applications and other activities which are organized by the Croatian diaspora organizations inside and outside Croatia. The current communication channels of the three main diaspora institutions have been analyzed to present the potentials and selection of social media. To support all the arguments a research about the User habits of social media in Croatia has been conducted along with a case study of a diaspora youth project Eco Heritage Task Force that presents the specific examples of great practices which social media create.
