Abstract

This paper is about phonetic correction basen od Verbotonal method by Petar Guberina which is used to improve and correct speech in second language. Verbotonal method is based on a human and human abilities. Considering speech mispronunciation made in learning second language, Spanish speakers were mispronouncing voiced dental fricative /z/. The students pronunciated it high, tense and voiceless, that is as voiceless /s/. Correction was done in ten sessions with six students according to the principles of Verbotonal system. Based on their mistakes, the material was made with optimal and non-optimal words, sentences, and text. Modes and course of correction are described, as well as results, using data of subjective (perceptive assessment of pronunciation before and after correction) and objective acoustic analysis (by measuring harmonicity before and after correction). The obtained results coincide and show the effectiveness of phonetic correction. Main principle, which is individuality of each person, is also shown in this paper.
