Abstract
Education as a social institution serves the needs of society and must constantly progress in order to respond to the challenges of a rapidly and unpredictably changing globalized world. Today, it is impossible to introduce educational innovations free of technological advances. Technological resources have become educational resources, but without pedagogical background, making the use of information and communication technologies in many countries ineffective. The aim of the paper is to compare the Croatian and Finnish views on the role of information and communication technologies in education and how this reflects on their current state of affairs in the educational system, i.e. to show what makes the Finnish education system successful, and where Croatia has yet to improve.
