Abstract
By studying the basic literature on knowledge management, new knowledge creation, and communities of practice as well as their role in the context of knowledge management, it has been settled a theoretical framework for understanding the process of sharing and creating new knowledge in virtual communities of practice. The second, research part of the paper brings data obtained through content analysis and through a questionnaire survey conducted in two virtual communities of practice – French Bulldog Croatia and Gluten Free Recipes. The aim was to analyze members’ activity, their motivation for community involvement, as well as key factors that enable and influence sharing and creation of new knowledge in a community of practice. The obtained results have proven that most examinees respectively members of the community feel confident to share their own experiences, the communities are governed by confidence, as well as the members have a sense of belonging. Most examinees are motivated to share experiences, problems, and knowledge, resulting in an arbitrary sharing of tacit knowledge and thus the creation of new knowledge.
