Abstract

This paper will show the emergence and development of theoretical currents in the late 60s of the last century in Germany, which is now referred to as the New Marx Reading. In addition to the history of the (new) reading, this work will provide an insight into the epistemological assumptions and the predecessors (primarily Rubin and Paschukanis) of this approach, its difference to the old readings (the so-called traditional Marxism) and its positioning towards political practice. In short it could be said that the New Reading considers that the Marxist tradition so far had a somewhat limited understanding of the basic categories of Marx's critique of the political economy, and thus missed the object and goal of Marx's critique.
