Abstract
This thesis through the five chapters discuss the theme of 3D technology, with special emphasis on the use of 3D technology for tourism and educational purposes.
Thesis starts with the description of 3D graphics and 3D technology. 3D models are described by describing the most commonly used forms of virtual 3D models and also the devices used by this technology. Then there is a part about 3D scanners and 3D printers, describing the most commonly used types of these products and the technologies they use, as well as the scope of their applications.
Third part of the thesis is about computer simulations that use 3D technology, such as virtual restoration, virtual reality, and augmented reality, as well as differences between the virtual reality and augmented reality. Especially, there is analysis of hardware and software that is used in augmented reality projects.
Last part of the thesis deals with the examples of the use of 3D technology for tourism and educational purposes, wherethe UNESCO's Digital Heritage Preservation Charter, the Google Art Project and the Rome Reborn project are outlined. After that, there are two examples of using 3D technology for tourism and educational purposes in Croatia, both in Šibenik. First is the augmented reality project on Fortress Barone, and second is project of Virtual Juraj Dalmatinac in front of the Šibenik cathedral.
