Abstract

Audiovisual records are those which contain sound and/or image. This paper is divided into four sections according to carrier type. All types of audiovisual records were made of different kinds of bases, emulsions and other components, all of which have their distinctiveness and different reactions to their surroundings. Every chapter discusses types and characteristics of those carriers, as well as the history of their evolution. The main causes of detoriation and the ways in which temperature, relative humidity, foreign matter and atmospheric pollutants affect the records are also explained. The paper also examines ideal storage conditions and the correct ways of handling the records. Furthermore, it talks about choosing proper storage enclosures and placing the records on archive shelves.
