Abstract
Through a fundamental study of available literature, reviewing the archival documentation of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb and finally, interviewing textile experts at the Croatian Restoration Institute as well as the Museum of Arts and Crafts, the aim is to give a brief overview of tapestry history, their specificity, as well as the Conservation and Restoration works performed on tapestry in Croatia. As the only tapestry expert in Yugoslavia, Mira Ovčačik–Kovačević has great importance for the creation of restoration.
Since the early '50s, she has been restoring and conserving numerous tapestries. At the same time she has been constantly pointing out the need for the complete establishment of restoration workshops, as well as the proper conservation and restoration of tapestries. The
aim of the present paper is to present complex Conservation and Restoration work on tapestries in Croatia. The same has been carried out at the Conservation workshops for textile
(Museum of Art and Crafts) in the 90s as well as works on tapestries Months (Croatian Restoration Institute) started in 2015.
