Abstract
This paper explores the concept of imagery of diwan poetry. At the beginning, a theoretical framework is set, which explains the term of diwan poetry, its poetics and its role in Ottoman society. We mention the reception of diwan poetry throughout the centuries, beginning with the reception of Western authors, to recent Turkish interes for the research of diwan poetry. Later, we define the concept of imagery in context of islamic tradition and we explain the concept of love in diwan poetry. In the analytical part of this paper we analyze the most common motives and figures of diwan imagery. The aim of this analysis was underline the importance of diwan poetry as a relevant source for researching Ottoman social and cultural history.
