Abstract

The paper examines the impact of trade unions and collective agreements on prevalence of non-standard employment. In order to examine the impact of trade unions and collective agreements, but also other predictors (size, sector and ownership) on nonstandard employment, data from the Employers Survey 2014 collected by the Croatian Employment Service was used. Multinomial and binary logistic regressions shows that collective agreement coverage in either model is not statistically significant predictor of prevalence of non-standard employment, while the size of the employer was a consistent predictor in all models. It has also been established that there are differences in the use of different forms of non-standard employment. The service sector and the ownership are statistically significant predictors for prevalence of other forms of nonstandard employment (temporary service contract, author’s contract, student contract, agency work), while they were not for the usage and prevalence of fixed-term contracts.
