Abstract
The paper deals with the experience of time lapse and the possible consequences of expected climatic changes at the end of this century and the beginning of the next on the Cres-Lošinj archipelago. Our study combines the theoretical findings from the field of "sociology of time", and the empirical data obtained via two sociological researches carried out on the islands in 1988 and 1992. The introductory part of the paper presents the basic dimensions of sociological approach to above mentioned phenomena. The first part of our study contains an analysis of the possible influences of anticipated global climatic changes on socioecological characteristics of the Cres-Lošinj archipelago. It contains an analysis of the consequences of possible sea-level rise and temperature increases up to the year 2100. The second part of the study discusses the main empirical findings regarding possible influences of the anticipated global climatic changes on the local communities.
