Abstract
The aim of this study was to research the relationship between organizational citizenship
behavior (OCB), joviality and perceived organizational support (POS) among Croatian
employees. We examined the relation between POS, joviality and OCB as well as the potential
mediating role of joviality on the relation between POS and OCB. Neuroticism was included as
a control variable and we examined its contribution on all relations. Data was collected on a
convenience sample of employees (N=210) from different work organizations in Croatia.
Participants filled out the perceived organizational support scale, organizational citizenship
behavior and joviality scale (PANAS-X) as well as the biographical questionnaire. Our analyses
showed that highly educated participants and participants who work in the private sector
reported higher levels of perceived organizational support. The study has shown that POS was
significantly positively related to organizational citizenship behavior and joviality, while OCB
was significantly positively related to joviality. Considering potential mediational effects, it was
shown that joviality partially mediates the positive relationship between POS and organizational
citizenship behavior. The results of this study confirm the importance of emotions in the
workplace and their mediating role in relations in working behavior.
