Abstract
The paper concerns an analysis of a work of modern literature, the Harry Potter
novels, in that it compares motifs and motifemes present in the novels with the mythemes and
myths present in the classical mythology. The goal of the paper is to show that parts of
classical myths are present in the contemporary literature regardless of the time separation and
it explains why such an analysis is possible in the first place, how it was done and in what
way are the contemporary literature and myth connected. The paper brings specific examples
of microstories from the aforementioned novels, which were compared with the specific
mythemes from the classical mythology, and sometimes, they are both connected by the
stories which are younger than classical mythology and older than the Harry Potter novels and
so they act as a bridge between both sides of the analysis.
