Abstract
At the moment microfilming and digitization are two most common methods in the preservation of archival materials. The first part of the thesis describes the microfilming process, the importance of the good preparation of the material, various types of microfilms and various film tapes. The second part briefly explains digitization and describes NAIS-National archival information system and digitization of the microforms. Finally, the long-term preservation method used by Norwegian company Piql is described.
