Abstract

Access of digital content is an elementary need of 21st century. With increasing development of technology comes development of assistive technologies that allow access of digital content for persons with disabilities. In this paper, a historical overview of development of assistive technologies is given alongside their influence on everyday life of persons with disabilities and examples of modern assistive technologies based on the type of disabilities among users and their hardware and software requirements. In order for the assistive technologies to access digital content, it needs to be adjusted according to the existing informal guidelines. This paper also explores how much public institutions comply with generally accepted norms of accessibility adjustments of digital content for assistive technologies.
