Abstract
Counterproductive work behavior (CWB) is defined as any intentional behavior on the part of an organization member viewed by the organization as contrary to its legitimate interests. Personality is an important determinant of CWB. Some of the Five-factor model traits can predict CWB, such as agreeableness, conscientiousness and emotional stability. Recent studies show that the Dark triad traits (machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy) can also predict CWB, and to a greater extent than the Five-factor traits. Those studies were conducted mainly in the western countries, while it is still an unexplored area in Croatia. Therefore, in this study, conducted on a convenience sample of employees from various Croatian organizations (N = 202), we tried to examine whether the Dark triad traits (machiavellianism, nacissism and psychopathy) predict CWB. Participants filled out the Dark triad scale, IPIP 50 personality questionairre and the Counterprodutive work behavior scale. Also, their colleagues have estimated their work behavior on the Counterproductive work behavior scale. Our results have confirmed previous results conducted in the western countries and showed that on a Croatian sample all three Dark triad traits predict CWB when self-reported. Contrary to our expectations, the dark triad didn't predict counterproductive work behavior when it was other-reported.
