Abstract
This thesis focuses on Croatian primary learners’ out-of-school exposure to English and their attitudes about the benefits of such exposure. Furthermore, the study analyses the most common of exposure to English and their benefits for FL learners, as well as the strategies that EFL learners report to use during their out-of-school exposure to English. In the first part, we provide theoretical background and previous research on the topic, whereas in the second part we present the qualitative study conducted for the purpose of this thesis, describe results obtained and relevant discussion. The results of the study show that those learners who have more out-of-school exposure to English also have higher grade. The most frequent form of exposure is watching TV, followed closely by the Internet and music, while reading in English is the least frequent out-of-class activity. Participants have mostly positive attitudes towards learning the language and its omnipresence in their everyday life.
