Abstract
Yugoslavia is frequent topic in Croatian public discourse, but the education, especially adult education, is rarely discussed. Due to the fact that education is an important factor in the development of a country, lack of such discussion is outlandish. Therefore, this thesis is concerned with the adult education in Former Yugoslavia. It is a theoretical research that analyses adult education in Former Yugoslavia. First of all, andragogy, the field that deals with methods and principles of adult education, is analysed, and its historical development is given. Furthermore, Yugoslav economy and social organization are discussed. Also, aims and contents of adult education in Former Yugoslavia are analysed, and their implementation is questioned. Moreover, examples of adult education in Former Yugoslavian republics are given. In the end, the results of a longitudinal study that deals with adult education in Socialist Republic of Croatia are given.
