Abstract
Challlenges of contemporary ethnographic writing practices and the relationship
between literature and ethnography are discussed on the example of Svetlana Alexievich's
Voices from Utopia project, with a particular focus on the concept of ethnographic authority. A
comparative analysis will show different strategies for building ethnographic authority in
Alexievich's Chernobyl Prayer and Adriana Petryna's Life Exposed: Biological Citizens After
Chernobyl.
