Abstract
The subject of this article are the images of elderly in two Croatian daily newspapers – Jutarnji list and Veĉernji list. The sample consisted of 50 articles that were from 1.1. to 31.12.2014. published in the online editions of these newspapers with the tag "umirovljenici (pensioners)". Additional 54 articles that were published with the tags „starost“ (old age) and "starenje“ (aging) were also analyzed. The content analysis showed that retirement and elderly people's lives are depicted predominantly negative: they appear as victims of the system or as a social group that represents a burden for the state budget. Analysis of the articles has shown that aging in general is depicted from a negative perspective and that it's treated as an undesirable process that needs to be avoided as long as possible. The article also points to the necessity and possibility of different images of aging and the importance of raising awareness of the existing discrimination of the elderly in the society.
