Abstract
The theme of this paper is guerrilla gardening as an urban social movement that seeks to preserve and protect public space in the city. Given the lack of professional literature dealing with this relatively new social phenomenon, its analysis requires an insight into various critical thoughts on the relation of society to space and the influence of that relationship on the spatial politics of the city. In this context, we used the concepts of space as a social product, space production, and spatial discrimination. (Lefebvre, H., Harvey D., Castells, M.) Guerrilla gardening is considered as an uninitialized way of turning attention to social processes that reduce the key feature of public space as universally available. (privatization, capitalist mechanisms) Due to the strong ecological and political dimensions, this work trough various examples offers an insight into the complexity of guerrilla gardening as an urban movement that by re-establishing a relationship with nature, decentralized organization and heterogeneous groups of supporters, forms public space at the local level.
