Abstract

The aim of the research was to examine the relationship between academic procrastination and test anxiety and to check for differences between these two variables in students of public and private faculties and male and female students. It was also examined whether these two variables are related to the variables of academic success. The research was conducted online and the sample included students of the Public Economics Faculty and students of private faculties ZŠEM and VERN' (N = 219) in Zagreb. Text Anxiety Inventory and the Tuckman Procrastination Scale were used, and demographic data was collected: gender, age, faculty, level and year of study, average grade and number of passed exams during the study. It was found that female students of both faculties were more anxious than male students, and students at public faculties were more anxious than those at private faculties. The main effects of gender and faculty at academic procrastination are not statistically significant - students of both private and public faculties equally postpone their academic obligations. Test anxiety and academic procrastination are two positively correlated constructs. Test anxiety and academic procrastination are negatively correlated to average grade. Students with greater number of passed exams have lower scores on test anxiety. Correlation between academic procrastination and number of passed exams was not statistically significant.
