Abstract
This thesis comprises five annotated translations, accompanied by a discussion. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (G. Hofstede, G. J. Hofstede and M. Minkov: Cultures and Organizations: Software of the Mind. Intercultural Cooperation and Its Importance for Survival, David Willetts: A University Education, and Cochrane reviews), and two from Croatian into English (Vodič antičke zbirke and Andrija Škare: Društvene igre). The discussion focused on the problem of the role which the translator has while translating culturally specific items. The discussion explores the significance of cultural mediation, its importance and the requirements of a translator acting as a cultural mediator. It also focuses on the role of the translator throughout history and the political and economic factors which affect the translator‟s work.
