Abstract
The aim of the study that will be presented in this graduation thesis was to examine language use anxiety among exchange programme students. A theoretical aspect of the topic was covered by the introduction to the most important concepts for language anxiety and a review of the most relevant research carried out so far. The study was carried out among 40 exchange students at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, who came from 20 different countries. The data was collected by means of a questionnaire (40 participants) and an interview (4 participants), which were carried out via internet. The questions concerned linguistic as well as the social aspects of the language use, since the language anxiety often showed to be influenced by social circumstances. The general assumption that exchange students will not have high level of language use anxiety was confirmed. The study also showed the importance of an encouraging atmosphere for the foreign language improvement and for the decrease of language use anxiety.
