Abstract
Security, as one of the basic functions of every state, is a very complex and historically differently understood phenomenon. It can be said that security "evolved" from a military-political domain of understanding into a domain of social relations, i.e. social everyday life. For the national security institutions, and thus the state as a whole, to function properly and respond to sources of endangerment, they must possess different skills, competences and knowledge enabling them timely action to remove threats and endangerments. Seeing how there is no separate university programme, whether at the University in Zagreb or any other university in Croatia, that would allow students the acquisition of knowledge enabling them to work in the security-defence state sector, this paper, for the purpose of breadth of analysis, encompasses individual components of the University of Zagreb and analyses the level of implementation of courses that deal with the issues of security in the total curriculum of individual faculty.
