Abstract
Although it is known that many factors contribute to school achievement, the aim of our study was to determine the relationship of academic selfregulation with perceptions of parents and school achievement. The survey was conducted on a sample of 132 pupils (75 female and 57 male participants). The following instruments were used: Selfregulation Scale-Academic (Ryan & Connell, 1989) and Perceptions of Parents Scale (Grolnick, Ryan & Deci, 1991). The results show that perceived maternal behavior is positively correlated with autonomous regulation and negatively correlated with controlled regulation, of female pupils. Parenting measures did not show any significant correlations with a male motivation. Intrinsic regulation is statistically significant predictor of school achievement for female pupils; external, identified and intrinsic regulations are statistically significant predictors of school achievement for male pupils. Parenting measures did not show any contributions to school achievement both for female and male pupils.
