Abstract

Through our whole life, we constantly depend on our memory. Without functional memory, many of our daily activities would become unbearable. For that reason, our aim to train and improve our memory is not at all incomprehensible. Large body of research can be found in literature concerning effectivness and transfer of different types of cognitive training. However, there is an apparent lack of research investigating factors that moderate that transfer. The aim of this study was to explore the contribution of personality traits – neuroticism and conscientiousness – in prediction of success in different stages of working memory training. Total of 47 subjects participated in fifteen 30-minute sessions of individual working memory training. Four separate hierarchical analysis were conducted, one for each stage of working memory training. Results showed that personality traits contribute to prediction of success in early stages of working memory training. In later stages of working memory training, influence of personality weakens, while the significance of cognitive factors, such as fluid intelliegence, rises. In the discusion, we consider possible explanations steming from present literature and debate on the course of future research.
