Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between different conceptualizations of personality and propensity to moral disengagement and counterproductive work behavior. The study was conducted on a sample of employees (N = 197). Participants filled out General Data Questionnaire, Machiavellianism Scale, the Conditional Reasoning Test for Aggression, Moral Disengagement Scale and Counterproductive Work Behavior Questionnaire. Machiavellianism and implicit measures of aggression positively correlate with the propensity to moral disengagement. Machiavellianism has a statistically significant independent contribution in explaining the variance of moral disengagement. Machiavellianism, implicit measures of aggression and propensity to moral disengagement positively correlate with counterproductive work behavior and have a statistically significant independent contribution in explaining the variance of counterproductive work behavior. The propensity to moral disengagement is a partial mediator between personality traits and counterproductive work behavior.
