Abstract
In the thesis „Assesment of Students in Rhetoric Classes“, the status of rhetoric as a subject in highschools and other secondary education institutions in Croatia, the methods of student assesment, as well as both teaching objectives and learning outcomes in contemporary rhetoric classes, have been tested. A survey that included four professors of rhetoric has led to the conclusion that the ways of teaching rhetoric contents are different and that debate, speech composition and argumentation are the main themes of the classes. Student assesment and giving feedback are most commonly done for the speech composition, which takes the largest part in the final score. The results show that the professors agree that the best means of rhetoric evaluation is numerical and descriptive evaluation, while they suggest that the Department of Rhetoric introduces criteria for assesment of students in rhetoric classes, in order for it to be as universal and successful as possible.
