Abstract
The relationship between intelligence and personality with school success has been examined in this study. The NEO- FFI was used to measures five domains of personality - Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. Intelligence was measured using D-48, a measure with a highly saturated "g " factor. School success was defined by half-term results for mathematics, Croatian language and general academic achievement. The main assumption was that that a relationship between intelligence, conscientiousness and school achievement will be found. The relationship between conscientiousness and number of absences was also investigated. Furthermore, we attempted to determine a relationship between intelligence and Openness to Experience in view of the fact that this personality factor has often been described as intellect. A series of hierarchical regression analyses were conducted in order to determine the relationship of intelligence and personality with school success. The obtained results suggest that intelligence and conscientiousness proved to be statisticaly significant predictors. We did not find a connection between personality measured by the NEO-FFI and the number of absences. The possible reason may be attributed to criteria, in view of the fact that the number of absences represents both legitimate and unjustified absences where only unjustified may have better served the purpose. The study did not find a relationship between intelligence and Openess to Experience.
