Abstract
Normal hearing is one of the most important prerequisites for the orderly development of speech, because speech is learned by listening. Significant and permanent hearing loss in children that occurs prior to the development of speech has major consequences for the overall development of the child, in particular on the development of speech and language. Cochlear implant is intended for persons who, due severity of hearing loss, cannot achieve adequate listening with conventional hearing aids. The purpose of integration or inclusion of children with cochlear implants into the mainstream preschool system, is to help them adapt to the system and the activities of the group . The aim of this case study was to determine how the speech of a child with cochlear implant is evaluated by students of phonetics (N = 28), and to determine the importance of integration of implanted children in mainstream preschool education. Students of phonetics evaluated sound recordings of the girl's speech, while her educator and teacher were interviewed on the integration process and shortcomings.
