Abstract
The aim of this research was to examine whether stress impairs performance of indecisive and decisive individuals in a cognitive test. The study included 192 students of 5 different faculties in Zagreb. The level of indecisiveness was measured with the Indecisiveness Scale and the cognitive performace was measured with the Perceptual speed test. During the research, stress was induced by taking the Numerical series test specially adapted to this research with the purpose of inducing stress in participants. Particularly, the Numerical series test involved some unsolvable items as well as limited and insufficient available time for solving it. Also, the investigator counted down the time left for the test. At the end of the research participants fulfilled a brief self-assessment of perceived levels of stress during the research measured on the Likert scale. Results show that indecisiveness or elevated level of stress have no major effect on performance in Perceptual speed test. The results also show that there is no interaction between elevated level of stress and level of indecisiveness on performance in Perceptual speed test. The findings indicate that the cause of the frequent inadequate reactions by indecisive individuals on different situations is not in their cognitive abilities.
