Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between dimensions of self esteem (self liking and self competence) and dimensions of perfectionism (positive perfectionism and negative perfectionism), and to explore the difference on these dimensions on a group of high school students and college students. To assess these dimensions in this study we used The Self-Liking / Self-Competence Scale (Tafarodi and Swann, 2000) and Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale (Terry-Short, Owens, Slade and Dewey, 1995). We found significantly higher self liking and positive perfectionism in high school students than in college students. The results showed negative relationship of negative perfectionism with self liking and self competence, and no difference in the strenght of that connection. After controling for overlap between positive and negative perfectionism, we found positive connection of positive perfectionism with self liking and self competence, and difference in the strenght of that connection was not significant.
