Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine which indicators of pupil's depression do the teachers identify and how do their ratings of those indicators in pupils correspond to pupil's level of depression measured by a depression scale. A sample of 136 pupils was assessed with the Children and adolescent depression scale ("SDD") (Vulić - Prtorić, 2003). Teachers (N = 7) rated the expression of four depression indicators that were extracted in the first part of the study: "unsociableness", "indifference", "dejection" and "irritability". The results showed statistically significant medium high correlations between "SDD" scores and the ratings of "unsociableness" and "dejection". No statistically significant correlations were found between "SDD" scores and the ratings of "indifference" and "irritability".
