Abstract
The goal of this study was to assess the role of implicit aggression in the prediction of the cognitive component of organizational cynicism, and to examine the mediating role of the cognitive component of organizational cynicism on the relationship of implicit aggression and counterproductive work behavior. For this purpose, employed individuals (N = 353) completed a battery of tests. We assessed implicit aggression using the Croatian adaptation of the Conditional reasoning test for aggression (CRT- A), a relatively recently developed instrument for assessing aggression as an implicit personality trait. For the assessment of the level of organizational cynicism and the incidence of counterproductive work behaviors we translated two instruments and adapted them for Croatian participants. We analyze previous knowledge of this area and the results of this research. The results indicate that implicit aggression does in fact significantly predict the cognitive component of organizational cynicism, and that the cognitive component of organizational cynicism does mediate the relationship of implicit aggression and counterproductive work behavior. Our research offers new insight into the mechanisms of counterproductive work behavior which might encourage the development of new methods for reducing the incidence of such behavior.
