Abstract
The subject of this study was to establish the relation between dimensions of ZimbardoTime Perspective Questionnaire (ZTPI) and dimensions from Selection, Optimization and Compensation (SOC) model of self-regulation. The study conducted across n=239 students of 1st and 2nd grades in two high schools from Zagreb, assessed by ZTPI and SOC questionnaires, showed that dimension of future time perspective is a significant predictor of all the dimensions from SOC model including the overall SOC scores. Also significant positive predictor of overall SOC score was the past positive perspective (PPP), while the past negative perspective (PNP) was a significant negative predictor of overall SOC score, same as for criterias of optimisation (O) and compensation (C). Present fatalistic perspective (PFP) was a signficant negative predictor of elective selection (ES) and optimisation (O), while present hedonistic perspective showed no predictive significance for any of criteria. Findings implicate that encouraging the development of the future time perspective in the childhood could result in development of self-regulation strategies and early detection of past negative and present fatalistic perspectives enable prevention acts toward students with the risk of poor school achievement.
