Abstract
The aim of this research was to investigate the role of realization of the anticipated technical development in the future on the affective state of participants and their views on the technological development and future. To answer this question, we had two kind of treatment: in the first situation, participants have heard a lecture on the actual predictions about the development of technology in the near future, with a special emphasis on the development of fields of robotics, artificial intelligence and human enhancement through technology. The other group of participants have watched one science fiction future scenario - an episode of the mini series Black Mirror, whereby the material presented wasn't in any way connected with the actual development of technology in the future. Differences in the affective state and views on the future and progress of technology between these two groups were analised, taking into account some relevant variables such as socio- demographic status of participants, optimism, pessimism and intellect as personality traits. Results show that both treatments increase the negative affect of the participants. They also lead to increase in negativity of views about the future and technical progress.
