Abstract

This article performs an analysis of documentary methods used by Norbert Gstrein and Danilo Kiš based on poetical reflections by the two authors, whereby the documentary method is understood either as a procedure of intertextual structuring or as a form of transgressive documentarism. In this context, a transgress of the documentary signifies a tendency towards the crossing of boundaries, which can be observed both in Kiš and Gstrein. The interplay between fiction and documentarism reveals the authors' manipulation of historically transmitted facts with the goal of drawing attention to the volatile status of reality as well as to the points in which the past and the present overlap.
