Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the association of emotional intelligence with people oriented leadership style (consideration) and to determine whether interaction between emotional intelligence and years of leadership experience predicts people oriented leadership style and, furthermore, to examine the association of leadership experience with task oriented leadership style (initiative structure). The study used a convenient heterogeneous sample which included 214 participants from Croatia. Their characteristics varied across gender, age, education and leadership experience. Participants filled out the Emotional Scale Competence Questionnaire, Leadership Behaviour Description Questionnaire. The results show that emotional intelligence is in significant positive correlation with people oriented leadership style. Considering interaction hypothesis, it was shown that the interaction between emotional intelligence and leadership experience was not a significant predictor of people oriented leadership style. The results show that leadership experience is in significant positive correlation with task oriented leadership style (initiative structure).
