Abstract
This thesis aims to provide an overview of morphosyntactic changes that led to the creation of five separate languages out of one common, Old Norse. Those are Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic and the Faroese. As the title says, this thesis will mostly analyze nouns and their morphology, but also changes and differences in the syntax of each language. The thesis begins with an introduction on language changes in general, their causes and circumstances under which they occur. After that it describes in detail the morphology and syntax of Old Norse, so that the changes could be monitored better. This is followed by an analysis of modern Nordic languages, along with a more detailed analysis of Swedish and Icelandic. This analysis is presented in practice, on the examples of three Swedish and two Icelandic texts throughout history, so that these differences and changes would be shown in practice. The thesis concludes with a short review of everything already mentioned and learned, and it briefly highlights the most important acknowledgments.
