Abstract
Gestures and multimodality are still almost largely neglected in foreign language learning/teaching. This thesis aims to present the potential their use offers both to teachers and students. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with setting the stage and easing the reader into the mindset needed to understand the study which was carried out in order to investigate the students’ perceptions about gesture use and gesture incorporation into their teachers’ lesson planning. Students have an intuitive understanding of gestures and their use and they seem to recognize their potential in teaching English as a foreign language and communication in general.
